Family Guy

I was watching Family Guy tonight and I noticed a lot of women references. They related more towards Lois and other females but nothing towards Meg. I have noticed that in many upon many episodes that they treat Meg poorly. She is also a female but she doesn't get the "respect" from guys as the other females do in the show. I'm curious as to why put down Meg all the time. She is a female, she has all of the female parts, it just confuses me. The only episode I can remember is when Meg and Lois went south for a spring break vacation. Meg showed her chest to thousands of people and then people started paying attention to her. Is that really what this world is coming to?? Women HAVE to show their breasts to recieve attention from not only males but females too. It just disgusts me watching these "funny" shows now after taking this woman studies course. I finally get all the "humor" behind the jokes and they are not funny.

Magazines

While waiting in the check out line to purchase a few Christmas gifts, I see rows upon rows of magazines. Towards the bottom are the childrens magazines with fun pictures to color and other things. Next level up were cooking and house magazines. The next row up were for the tweens. That row had all of the Edward/Bella, 1 Direction, and those "big" media people on the covers. A few rows up, at the top shelf were the "Must be 18 and over to purchase" magazines. I was shocked by how many of the titles and heading stuck out to me. Most if not all were mentioning something about women's bodies. I understand that the magazine needs to make money but I know for a fact that if I brought my younger sibling into that store and she started reading those headings, my parents would flip. I feel like those sorts of magazines should be in an adult store or in an enclosed room like at the Family Video. The adult movies are in an enclosed room and there are cameras and mirrors that watch who walks into the room. This way I, and several others including parents, do not have to explain to their child or younger sibling what "Titties" or other nasty words at their age means.

Any thoughts about where these magazines should be located?? Or am I just preparing for the worse when I see those sorts of "18 and older" magazines sitting out in the open at a local, family store.

Date Night

My boyfriend and I have a date night once a week. It usually consists of going out to dinner followed by seeing a movie. Typically when we go to dinner, it is a restaurant like Olive Garden or a sushi place. Somewhere nice where we like to dress up and spend time together. The past three weeks that we have gone out to eat the waiter or waitress always hands the bill to my boyfriend. Yes he pays but I still pay every once in a while to keep it fair. But the past few weeks I took it upon myself to pay because it was my turn. Every time, the waiter/ waitress gave my boyfriend the bill and I had to snatch it away.

Why is it that every single time the bill is handed to my boyfriend? Do they think I am incapable of paying a dinner bill? Do they think that the man should always pay? Why not set the bill in the middle of the table and then whoever pays can just take it. I do not understand why they have most waiters/waitresses have to be sexist and give the bill to the male of the relationship.

A rollercoaster of hormones...

I live in a house with three other females besides myself....so a house of four women under one roof with one bathroom. It is not a walk in the park let me tell you that. Every week somebody is on their period and the hormones in the house are outrageous. Why is it that only women's hormones go up and down so quick? I did not sign up to live on a rollercoaster. I would have to admit that I have my ups and downs but I definetly do not target anybody specifically like the other females in my house. I have seen this in other female houses. There are ALWAYS fights, drama, and crying. But when I walk into my boyfriend's house which have all males under the roof, there is never any drama, no talking behind each others back, nothing like what happens in a all girl house.

This is more of a help blog. What should I do to have the hormone rollercaster slow down and take a break. It isn't safe for anybody in this house.

Alison Piepmeier Article

After Monday's class, I went home and re-read the Alison Piepmeier article and had my boyfriend read it with me. I wanted to hear his thoughts and views about this touchy subject of having a child with down syndrome or aborting it. Shockingly, he said he would never abort a child. "I would still love the child if they had down syndrome or seven legs or 100 eyes."

I mentioned to him that he was going over board and he disagreed. He believes that he created that bundle of joy and he would love it no matter what problems that child had. Both of us had mentioned that fact that most people that we have known have aborted their babies because they could not handle it or that they didn't want to bring the child up not having the best. Yes I would agree to an extent but why take an innocent life away. The baby has done nothing wrong.

As for Maybelle in the Piepmeier article, I think that is great. Yes she has down syndrome but she was a perfectly healthy baby. Still today, she is a healthy little girl with down syndrome. She sees the world in a different way and honestly I am proud of Alison Piepmeier for not giving up.

Laundromat

Yesterday I was doing my laundry at the laundromat with my boyfriend. I had all my dirty clothes separated into darks, colors, and whites. My boyfriend on the other hand threw all of his dirty clothes into one load and he had darks, colors, and whites just like me. I asked him why he didn't separate them like I did and his response was "I don't know, takes too much time". I would agree, when I first started to wash my own clothes it was difficult and time consuming to separate my clothes but it helps in the long run. I got used to separating clothes that it has just become natural to me. It just baffles me how different women and men can be when it comes to laundry. When all of our loads of laundry were done, I folded mine and put them in my laundry basket where my boyfriend just through them in his basket and was ready to go. When we got back to his house we just left his clothes sit in the basket to get all wrinkled. I was the one who folded his clothes and pt them away in their correct spot so he could find them. He thanked me and said he would start helping out with his laundry but he should right? I mean it is HIS laundry!

Women Vs. Men on Getting Ready

This past Saturday my good friend and roommate turned 21. The process she and our friends took to get ready was ridiculous. I of course was not drinking because I needed to be sober since I was the designated driver since I am the only one under 21. I was fine with this so. While all the girls were getting ready in the bathroom together, I sat in the living room and watched TV just wearing some sweats. The guys who were also going out with the girls just had on jeans and a nice shirt. They took maybe 10 minutes to get ready to go out. The guys and I were discussing why women NEED to get ready together in ONE tiny bathroom. There is no need for 6 girls to be in a bathroom all trying to get ready. This post is basically about why women take so long to get ready than men and why do women need to use the bathroom together.

Being a girl, I do not fit the stereotype where I NEED somebody to go to the bathroom with me. I am an adult and can use the bathroom by myself. A conversation with my friend can wait less then 5 minutes. With my roommates though, they have to be in the bathroom with somebody else. It is not just about using the bathroom to take care of business but even showering. When I am in the shower, I cannot tell you how many times my roommates just open the door and sit on the toilet to talk to me. Showering is my alone time and does not need to be interrupted by other girls. Plus the door was closed!!!

When I am going out, I have never taken over 30 minutes to get ready. Within my 30 minutes I curl my hair, get dressed, and put makeup on. My roommates this past Saturday took almost 2 hours!!! What can you possibly be doing for 2 hours!?!? Like I said before, the guys and I were watching TV waiting for my friends to get ready so I could drive them downtown. Everybody in the living room was complaining as to taking too much time and waiting for too long. I just don't understand what could possibly take so long!

Halloween costumes

I currently work at Party City here in Oshkosh. Since Halloween is right around the corner, we are selling a boat load of costumes to young toddlers and children to adult males and females. Halloween is getting to be more sexualized than ever. I was looking at our "picture wall" which is a wall that has all of our costumes pictured. Mens costumes start on the right, then goes left to women, then left to teens, then left to girls, then boys, then toddlers and infants. I hear quite a few little girls ask to be a cop because they see the pictures of the female cop costumes which are VERY revealing! There mothers try to find something that suits their child better but still the costumes are getting more and more skimpy by the year even for the younger girls.

There is this one collection of "Monster High" costumes for girls. The costumes are for the most part sleeveless, short cut, thigh high tights, and low cut. These sorts of costumes are setting our future women to believe that it is alright to dress like this and parade around the streets wearing literally half of their normal wardrobe.

Halloween is supposed to be the time of year to dress up scary, not have your boobs hanging out and your hoohah almost showing. It is very degrading. How is it comfortable? I would be pulling the costume down to cover the downstairs region and trying to keep it up at the same time to cover my boobs. It just isn't right.

Growing up, when I went trick or treating I would obviously wear my costume which was usually an angel, a witch, a football player, or a pirate. Every year I was supposed to wear either a sweatshirt or a winter coat underneath because it is usually chilly out on Halloween night around 4-7 pm. Now there are more and more Halloween parties at schools and churches (atleast that is what my customers have been telling me) and the parents are letting there little girls run around with no winter coat or sweatshirt underneath their already skimpy outfits. This just blows my mind.

Do you think that the Halloween costumes are getting to be more revealing and sexualized for younger girls???

Toddlers and Tiaras

I was sitting home one evening after a long day of class and turned on the TV. I was flipping through the channels just to see what was on. My roommates wanted me to stop at the TLC show Toddlers and Tiaras. Sure it is an entertaining show but what those mothers put their children through is rediculous. Yes my mother put me in dance classes and bought us very girly outfits for the recitals but never to the extent where we would be forced to do so. These young girls are being raised to think that it is okay to spend all of this money and fancy dresses and practice rooms and all the other stuff that goes along with pageants. They are cutting money else where such as food. Some parents are resorting to extreme couponing just to get by since most if not all of their money is going to pagaents. Another thing I noticed watching the episode of Toddlers and Tiaras is that there are VERY few if any male toddlers who participate. The only male toddlers I have seen in the pagaents all have sisters who are participating in the same pagaents. Why is it that society made it "uncomfortable" and "too girly" for guys to compete. They are not showing their girly side whatsoever because they are wearing tuxedos and doing manly talents. Some of the parents who were witnessing the male toddlers perform had a look of disgust on their face. This is just wrong and it makes me mad. In the future, if my son wants to perform in a pagaent, I will let him. If he wants to play sports like football or hockey, I will let him. Whatever will make my child happy will make me happy. Same goes for if I have a daughter. If she wants to be in pagaents, then go for it. If she wants to play sports, she can go ahead and do that.

October 1, 2012

While watching the packer game this past Sunday, I noticed there were quite a few women wearing skimpy outfits. Why is it, that women feel the need to reject their bodies. They could be the smartest people out there that we know but when they get drunk and sloppy while showing off their bodies makes them look easy. I do not know how some people find that attractive. The women parading themselves around like some kind of show is degrading. How would you feel if that was your daughter. I know my father would be furious seeing how sloppy I would be looking and acting. I understand it is a packer game and that kind of thing happens on a regular basis but even at non sporting events. Take the restaurant Hooters or the Tilted Kilt for example. Their uniforms are so skimpy and degrading. Of course the women get way more tips because they are showing of their bodies and flirting with the male customers. I do not think it is right for the female employees to be dressed in such a manner and basically get better tips then men. I do not know of any type of bar/restaurant that has male servers dressing like hookers. Just saying.
